Empty struggles

Here is a poem I wrote titled Up the downward staircase
Upthe downward staircase,
Trudging, I ascend.
Rising up slowly
My baggage weighing me down
Defeat ard discouragement beat me
My effort begins to wane
Striving ceases to bring me
Contentment, peace, blessing.
Up the downward staircase
Still I climb
Hope gives way to sorrow,
Through each step I rise higher.
All my work is noting
Emptiness is all I've found.
Each step seems that much higher.
Success I'll never reach.
The staircase over winding
Into stormy clouds
Defeated but ever climbing,
I walk up the downward staircase.
I wrote this out of inspiration from Ecclesiasties where the writer says life is meaningless and empty. I wanted to express the emotions a man would feel having worked his whole life for success and never achieving what he wanted so badly. Hence the title. It is supposed to invoke the idea or image of trying at something that one will never reach. In the imagery it is impossible to ever make it to the top of a staircase going the wrong direction.
So often in life as writers yes either try something and don't have success or we strive for a long time but never get the fulfillment of our work. It is important to remember that any work will not last forever. It's purpose is to make a different now. I encourage every reader to find some kind of creative way to make a difference with your writing. Maybe write a satire or a a didactic story. Ney a comedy where the main character learns a lesson. Write an encouraging poem. There are so many ways that we can toicj our world for good. Just don't sit around and strive for empty things.
