Rhyming and Roaming

When I write poetry I usually write in free verse. Yet sometimes I have this delusion that people won't think that my poetry is real if it doesn't rhyme. Whenever someone thinks of poetry the first thing that comes to mind is rhyme? So I ask why is that. Obviously my concern is not correct because there are very famous poets who write in free verse.
So why is there such a push for resuming in poetry. Yes it sounds nice but after a whole it gets old. The same patterns over and over again. I find myself roaming for the perfect roaming word. Half the time I can't even find the word that I really want. With free verse I can express my thoughts without be constricted by finding a rhyming word.
So of you decide to write poetry or you already do, don't be so caught up in rhyming that you miss the chance to freely express your heart and mind. Roaming isn't everything and usually it involves a lot more roaming.

  1. I enjoy writing free verse. Occasionally I'll rhyme, but normally my rhythm is off so it doesn't work so well! :)
