Adam's Song

Down these long and arduous roads
Where angels fear to tread,
I journey far below to the land
Of the living and the dead.
Harsh halos intersperse the twilight
Falling on the molten rock wall
Illuminating the history
Of the heavenly angels' fall.

I bear this heavy load I chose,
Though cumbersome and weary,
It cuts into my inner core
Reminding me of the shadow, dreary.
I cannot exult myself above
These angels fallen the same,
As I who chose to disobey,
The One who gave me my name.

Woe am I, the first fallen.
Of clay and dust I am made.
But for the one who calls me Son
I would not have been remade.
I do not fear the fallen ones
Who's object is to destroy,
For one is higher on my side
And who's power I do employ.

"Turn Thou away, O evil one,
From me come not near.
For I am his own chosen one,
A child the Father holds dear."
